SBS Drama <Racket Boys> 4

21.4.18

AGAIN. Another one. I think, at this point, they love me or something. Today’s scene was where the classmates (us) also played badminton. It was one of the PE lessons at school we were filming. For today’s costume, we got an unusual one: a gray colored PE uniform. I felt as if I was attending an actual Korean school. One of the advantages of having this job is that I get to experience what Korean high school students experience. After attending SFS for 9 years of my life, one of my bucket lists was to experience Korean school life. Wal la, I am able to accomplish this! Although I look extremely awkward whatever they do, such as bowing to the teacher before the class starts, I am able to fully encounter their life. Okay, back to the actual filming. After changing, we had to meet up in the gymnasium. There, I finally met up with the main actors. I was a bit nervous since what if they don’t remember me? The sub-director located me in one of the lines in the court like others. One of the main actors was sitting on my right; here we go again. I was acting as if he was a human being. Just a human being. I made an awkward smile on my face like this one 🙂 and looked around. During my second round of looking around, he finally noticed me, and made the same awkward smile as me as if he was noticing me. SUCCESSFUL. I remember him saying, “Russian girl! Привет ” with a Korean accent. I was extremely surprised that he remembered me. I responded by pointing at him and saying, “YAS! Should I teach you how to introduce yourself?” I was not nervous since all I was doing was talking to a human being. He delightedly accepted my offer, and from there, my lesson started. I wanted to finish this before he had his shot that will, I assume, occur in less than 15 minutes. I said, “Menya (меня) is me and zavout (зовут) is called. Later, at the end, you end with your name!” From then, he started repeating the words continuously and later came up to me to have a check. The scene after his scene was when all the other classmates had to gather around the other actor (Son); it was the scene where we were so amused by his badminton playing skills. When we all gathered, another scene was taking place. From then on, all I could hear was: “OMG!!!! You’re so good-looking!!” According to Son’s facial expression, he felt a bit uncomfortable since about 15 girls were surrounded around him, and everyone was making those comments except for me. Son responded, “Thank you guys…!” There was this one time when a girl in front of me said, “OH MY GOSH, GUYS. HE IS LOOKING AT ME!!!” He then responded, “I’m looking at the girl behind you.” BOI. That was me. I was the girl “behind you.” With my “foreigner” reaction, I said, “YOOOO! YAS BOI!!!” I don’t know whether we were filming another K-drama here, but all I could sense was the other girls’ eyes staring. After witnessing my reaction and the other girls, Son smirked. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN. Anyway, I am here to expand my filming experience, not a love story. I think filming the same production is an advantage as I was able to get close to famous actors! Anyways, there was this other scene where I was able to also hit the shuttlecock with my badminton racket. About six students had to act as if they were poor at badminton, and only about three had to act as if they were dope. They decided who to be who based on observing our skills. This all occurred in silence, only making sound effects when the director told us to. It was my turn. Even walking to the court was awkward. The shuttlecock came up to me and I hit it, there was reaction from other students, and went back to my original spot. You don’t know how much awkwardness I experienced during the whole scene. I get to learn and experience too many things while filming.

After watching the scenes: Do you remember when I mentioned how I look immensely awkward whenever I take any actions that are usual for Korean high school students? Guess what? My arms were on the table when bowing. I LOOK SO AWKWARD. This is too funny. I am the only person, ONLY PERSON, looking weird. It’s okay; now that I know, I will never forget putting my hand on my lap. There was also this scene where I hit the shuttlecock! I am so glad that my scene was in there since I bore too much awkwardness, and I needed some compensation.
