Personal Project: 2018 Gorl

23.1.10

For the 10th-grade personal project, I created a YouTube channel and a video that covered how to bake healthy cookie dough. With the concept of “2018,” my goal for this video was to spread awareness regarding how bakery goods can turn out healthy by inputting special ingredients. Within this project, I had two goals: the learning goal and the product goal.

Learning Goal: Baking was the first option that came into my mind when this project was introduced. This is because of how I wanted to elaborate on my family’s tradition of baking as well as learn new skills so that I can be considered one of the top bakers in the house. Currently, my grandmother is baking at the top of the pyramid. Every week, she would provide new snacks for our family and she always explained that those contained healthy nutrients. Because the snacks were created with healthy products, it was always able to brighten up our family members. Naturally, I formed a goal of being someone like my grandmother who can easily make people’s day with food. I was able to easily connect my personal background to the main topic of the project. This is because I wanted to provide healthy baking to get rid of the stress that human society is going through due to the harsh Korean beauty standards. Having a slim body, straight nose, and big eyes are common Korean beauty standards teenagers are expected/forced to have to be approved in Korean society. Coming up to high school, it was noticeable that people my age were starting to worry and stress about matching Koreans’ expectations. Although I have tried to ignore it, I also could not deny it. That was when I started developing thoughts similar to my friends. Nowadays, it led me to search for calories before I eat anything to become a habit.
