E-Numbering English Academy Commercial

21.3.27

I got called by KOI Entertainment for an advertisement for an English Academy! At first, I was so ready to speak any English the director wanted, but it turns out it is a video that promotes an English academy by acknowledging I can speak English. As I entered the academy, the camera was not yet set. One of the directors came up to me and directed me to wait in one of the rooms. Another student, like me, entered the room I was waiting in; she looked like an ordinary Korean high school student. I wanted to get close to her before our filming, so after a while, I went up to her and asked her age. She looked as if she didn’t want to talk with me. So, I stopped interacting with her after matching lines. It was one of the first times where the other actress did not want to interact, but I think this is necessary more because we are filming a scene where we are friends. So, I decided to chat with her at some point before she got overwhelmed. After the short interaction, the director located us in the lobby of the academy. There, the camera and lighting were all set. I sat in one of the chairs, and the other girl did too. The director brought the script to us and he told us to decide the role. Role 1 was a person who started to understand English and later screamed. Even before reading the other role, I knew this was me. Role 2 was a friend who was next to Role 1; her job was to ask what was going on. I immediately asked whether I could be Role 1. Then, we matched our lines. There was this one part where I had to act very proud and excited at the same time since I finally understood English! After deep consideration, I asked the director: “Can I do a little dance here?” I felt the bombastic side-eye from the girl next to me. The director responded, “Okay…! Let’s see it later?!” After some rehearsals, it was my turn to show my moves. I stood up, stepped on the chair, and flew, screaming “YAAASSS!” I was proud of myself, but I heard my director screaming, “CUT, CUT, CUT! Julia? Why are you jumping out of the frame?!” I guess that wasn’t it. But, without flinching, I suggested that they could choose from one of the actions I displayed. From flying like a ballerina to rolling back and forth on the ground, I poured out 89 ideas on the spot. I only stopped as they looked overwhelmed.
